Apollo 11: Kennedy’s Address to the Nation
Today, America has once again exemplified its perseverance and excellence by accomplishing another astonishing feat. Over the past decade, our nation has taken our battle with the Soviet Union away from the battle field and challenged each other’s determination, intelligence, and commitment. I am proud to say that the United States of America has emerged successful in this battle of wits. This victory, however, is not where we must draw the line, we must continue to push forward like the founding fathers of this great nation had done and continue to strengthen and prove American Exceptionalism. What I am referring to is the belief that America is unique and distinguished among the other countries of the world due to its democratic principles and continued progress. Personally, I recognize the validity of American Exceptionalism. However, this belief does lose its credit in times when the nation does not collectively back a good cause and hesitates to do what they believe to be right. In these moments of great distress I call upon the common citizen to summon their courage and leadership and help guide their lost neighbors. The foundation of American Exceptionalism lies within the people and their selfless characteristics. That is why I dedicate the success of Apollo 11 not only to NASA and our brave astronauts, but also to you, the public. This country has always derived its power for the people and has been directed by the people. Our nation’s great accomplishments are your accomplishments. These accomplishments have been recognized all over the globe and are now present in space.
Thank you and God Bless these United States of America.
Kennedy's Address to the Nation was both encouraging and powerful in meaning and symbolism. He gave Americans all over the country hope with his words, that America is the greatest nation in the world, and will remain that way for generations to come. He calls Americans to trust their instincts and insights and do what they believe is right. He actively encourages the common citizen to "summon their courage and leadership and help guide their lost neighbors". These types of encouragement strengthens American nationalism and ultimately makes us stronger. And with the voyage to the moon, America proves herself once again to truly be the best country in the world.
